International Girls’ in ICT Day is an initiative backed by ITU Member States in ITU Plenipotentiary Resolution 70 (Guadalajara, 2010) to create a global environment that empowers and encourages girls and young women to consider careers in the growing field of information and communication technologies (ICTs). International Girls in ICT Day is celebrated on the 4th Thursday in April every year.

This year KINU has teamed up with TANZICT, TCRA and CIA to organize a 2 day International Girls in ICT Day event on 24th and 25th of April.

On day one, the 24th of April, 50 female Secondary and University students from the Dar es Salaam area, including Makongo High School, Jangawani Girls School, Zanaki High School, Benjamin Mkapa High School, Loyola High School and Tambaza, will go on field trips to various organizations within the ICT sector. These organizations include Uhuru One, Tigo, Airtel and Seacom. The field trips are aimed at opening young girls eyes to the opportunities the ICT sector holds for their future.

Day two will see 200 girls from the same schools take part in a 1 day workshop and learning event. The group of 50 who participated in the field trip will present to their peers what they learned on their field trips; they will get a chance to listen to and meet Tanzanian women are are excelling in the ICT sector, and learn new skills at the workshop sessions.

Please note that KINU will be closed on the 24th of April, as the space is dedicated to the workshop for young women.

TZ developers if you need any assistance with the application process stop by KINU!

PIVOT East is East Africa’s premier mobile start-ups pitching competition and conference held annually since 2011. PIVOT East aims to catalyse the growth of mobile start-ups, so as to amplify and consolidate the gains of East Africa’s Mobile developer and entrepreneurship ecosystem.

The key objective for this year’s event is “to facilitate the discovery of the next wave of high potential mobile start-ups”.
